you may find a pit.
don't forget to suck it dry. let the fibres hang like dreadlocks. let them nudge in between your teeth.
you may find that it's pitless.
so, stop spitting the millionth seed and start chewing, swallowing them instead. put childhood thoughts of growing any like-plants in your belly away. out. at the back of your mind.
you may find out that it's too late.
the worm beat you to it. the frost beat you to it. the heat beat you to it. whatever it may be. chuck it well. use it as a fertilizer.
you may see your father slinking off to his garden in an attempt to forget that his wife, your mother, is writhing in pain for the nth time in the past 26 years. you may find him tending to his grapefruit, clicking his tongue at the tomatoes, smiling at his green beans, waiting for the papayas, and shaking his corn awake.
or you may find that you no longer can enjoy the insides of fruits, because your mother can't. because her tongue is cursed to burn burn burn. she can't eat anything she enjoys, so you can't enjoy anything you eat.
inside the fruit, you may find some of these and more.
