baba dug through the brown earth at golden nuggets of starch. he had his first potato harvest today and we took many photos on his cellular device.
he was proud. he showed me the coiled up maggot-cousins that aren't good for the potatoes. and he also showed me those that are: the worms in purple and maroon coats, wiggling in passages of air. i held a few in my palms, they seemed agitated as i tried to distinguish their heads from their tails. ha.
after we gathered the potatoes, we walked over to the green bean vines. then to the tomatoes, the small sour red . then the green onions. then the cilantro.
pick, pick, pick. put it all in a plastic basket.
throw it in a wok, you have tarkari.
tomorrow, i will ask aama what vegetables we have for an omelette, she'll ask me to go to baba's garden and i will pick the spinach, the tomatoes and the basil. i will wrap the omelette in a piece of bread and wash it down with tea.
